A delegation from the National Communication Council (NCC), led by Council members Serge NGANDO NTONE and Prof. KEUGONG NGUEKEN Rolande epse WATCHO met with media professionals in the Littoral and West Regions of Cameroon. These discussions were held on Monday, August 3 at Somatel Hotel in Douala, Littoral Region, and on Wednesday August 5, 2026 at Talotel, Bafoussam, West Region.

These meetings aimed to sensitize media professionals on their social responsibility and the ethical principles governing the journalism profession.

In their opening addresses, they welcomed media professionals, and other participants, expressing their appreciation for another opportunity to meet and discuss issues concerning the media sector. They highlighted the rapid advancement of digital technology and its far-reaching consequences on the media landscape, reiterating that the digital space is increasingly polluted by the proliferation of hate speech, stigmatization, the glorification of violence, and the spread of fake news, among other. To curb these threats to social cohesion, they urged journalists to uphold professional ethics, safeguard public interest, and promote social peace through responsible reporting.

A presentation on the social responsibility of journalists was subsequently delivered by representatives of the NCC. The presentation was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, during which media professionals engaged members of the delegation on issues relating to journalistic ethics, professional responsibility, and the evolving digital media environment.

In their closing remarks, the Council representatives emphasized that the National Communication Council is not an obstacle to press freedom but rather a guarantor of responsible journalism. They emphasized that freedom and responsibility are inseparable, while calling on media professionals to make the preservation of social peace their guiding principle in the discharge of their duties.

These missions included courtesy visits to the Governors of the Littoral and West Regions to inform them of the Council’s presence and mission in their respective regions. The visits also provided an opportunity to brief the Governors on the Council’s engagement with media professionals, aimed at promoting responsible journalism and identifying solutions for peaceful and constructive communication.
