The NCC President addresses CAMASEJ Douala on Media responsibilities

 

In an effort to strengthen ethical journalism ahead of the 2025 presidential elections, the President of the National Communication Council (NCC), Joseph Chebongkeng Kalabubsu, hosted a strategic session in Douala with English-speaking journalists of CAMASEJ Douala branch. The event, which took place on June 1 2025 saw the participation of nearly 50 media professionals.

President Kalabubsu underscored the NCC’s unwavering commitment to promoting professionalism and ethical standards in journalism. He stressed the dangers of misinformation and the critical role of the media in fostering national unity and responsible reporting, especially during sensitive electoral periods. One of the key initiatives highlighted during the discussion was the « NCC Cafés », designed to encourage non-violent communication and constructive debates among media practitioners and political actors. These forums provide a space for open dialogue, ensuring that journalistic content remains balanced, factual, and devoid of inflammatory rhetoric.

Journalists at the session expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage with the NCC President, acknowledging the relevance and timeliness of the discussion. As Cameroon approaches the 2025 elections, media professionals reaffirmed their dedication to upholding journalistic integrity and contributing to an informed and unbiased democratic process. This initiative signals an ongoing commitment to responsible journalism, reinforcing the media’s role as a pillar of democracy and national cohesion.
