The NCC equips Mungo Media Organs Ahead of 2025 Presidential Election.

On the 25th of April, 2025, a significant meeting took place in Nkongsamba between Mr Joseph Chebongkeng Kalabubsu, who heads the National Communication Council (NCC), and media professionals working in the Mungo division.
The event kicked off with a welcome address from the First Deputy Mayor of Nkongsamba II Council. He emphasised the importance of dialogue between official bodies and local media outlets. Following this, the Senior Divisional Officer of Mungo, represented by his First Deputy, took the floor, reminding those present of the social responsibility and ethical standards expected of the media, particularly in the run-up to an election.
Then, Mr Joseph Chebongkeng Kalabubsu, the NCC President, delivered a compelling presentation on the role of the media during election periods, stressing the need to tackle disinformation and hate speech. He pointed out that the upcoming presidential election represents a crucial moment for Cameroonian democracy and urged the media to set a sterling example. He assured attendees that the NCC would support professionals through education and training, whilst also maintaining a firm stance on upholding ethical guidelines. In his remarks, the media regulator highlighted the necessity for community radio stations, which are meant to be apolitical, to adhere strictly to their remit of providing local information on development issues. He criticised the worrying tendency of politicians to turn community radio stations into tools for election propaganda.
The meeting continued with a lively but civil exchange between the NCC President and the participants. Media professionals raised concerns related to their day-to-day work and the specific challenges they face in the Mungo division, all within an atmosphere of mutual listening and respect.
To wrap things up, a visit to the community radio station Nkongsamba FM was organised, allowing the President and his delegation to see firsthand the efforts being made by this important local information provider.
The meeting concluded on a satisfactory note, with a renewed commitment from all parties involved to promote responsible and ethical journalism that serves the cause of peace. It’s worth noting that this unprecedented event in Nkongsamba was initiated by the Mungo Divisional Delegate for Communication, Siméon Ava, in the lead-up to the 2025 World Press Freedom Day.
