NCC hosts TikTok: MOU in the works to enhance regulatory cooperations.

The National Communication Council, received TikTok representatives at its headquarters on 27 June 2024, during which a memorandum of understanding was deliberated upon. The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration ties between the media regulator and the social media platform and to discuss growing concerns about online safety, content regulation, and monetization for content creators.

During the meeting, TikTok representatives presented their initiative to protect users and promote responsible content creation. One of the significant steps taken by the platform is the creation of report portals, which allows users ranging from regulatory authorities, NGOs, civil society and the average John Doe to flag inappropriate content.

Additionally, they stated that media regulators have been whitelisted to ensure that content report by the latter are treated as emergencies.

The NCC, on the other hand, expressed its readiness to collaborate with TikTok to ensure that the platform complies with Cameroonian laws and regulations.

This visit is a positive development in the ongoing efforts to ensure online safety and responsible content creation. The proposed MOU and initiatives presented by TikTok demonstrates a commitment to working together to protect users and a safe online environment.
